The creation of the Ndu Rural Council in 1992, via Decree No. 92/187 of September 1st, 1992, marked a pivotal moment in their modern history. This established a formal framework for local governance and ushered in a new era of political participation. The council's first municipal elections in 1996 saw a resounding victory for the Social Democratic Front (SDF), who secured the mayoral seat and three deputy positions. Today, the council stands firmly in its third mandate, a testament to the enduring strength and resilience of the Wiya people and their engagement in the democratic process. Their journey, from a migration led by a warrior chief to a vibrant, functioning local government, is a compelling narrative of adaptation, resilience, and participation in the broader currents of Cameroonian histor
The Wiya people, under the courageous leadership of Fai Ndi Chomba, embarked on a migration from Kimi at the close of the 17th century. His valiant military exploits in a pivotal battle earned him a unique distinction: Fai Ngahnwenfu, or "Ngahnwenfu," the foreigner – a moniker bestowed upon him not for his origins, but for his fiercely independent and unconventional fighting style, so unlike the tactics of those familiar with the land. This decisive victory marked a turning point; their journey ended, and the Wiya established their settlement, never again to be uprooted. Their history then flowed into the currents of colonial history. In 1884, the Wimbum people, and consequently the Wiya, found themselves under the sway of the German colonial regime, a period of profound change and upheaval that lasted until 1919, when the British took up the mantle of colonial power. This transition, while fraught with complexities, shaped the political and social landscape of the Wiya. The years passed, marked by significant milestones in their local governance. The first Fon of the Wiya clan passed away in 1934, leaving a legacy that would shape generations. Chief William Nformi ascended to the position of second successor in 1941, a role he held with distinction until his death in 1982. His leadership oversaw a period of consolidation and growth for the Wiya community.
In 1934, the first Fon of the Wiya clan died with Chief William Nformi enthroned as the second successor in 1941 and he died in 1982. In 1992, the Ndu rural council was created through the decree No. 92/187 of 01/09/1992. The council had its first municipal elections in 1996 and the SDF won with a mayor and three deputies. Presently, the council is running its third mandate
